Dave & Kathryn

31 December 2010
Dave & Kathryn

Little did they know that their love story would begin while waiting for class to start at UCR.  Dave noticed Kathryn first; he struck up a conversation then announced that he was going to come over and sit with her.  Kathryn couldn’t resist his undeniable charisma and sparkle in his eyes, while Dave was attracted to her confidence and “definitely her smile.”  Eight years later, they exchanged vows overlooking the breathtaking view of Cleveland National Forest and golfing greens at Eagle Glen Golf Club in Corona.

Troy and I began our relationship with Dave & Kathryn by doing their engagement session at the exact beach where Dave proposed.  The special moments of Dave’s proposal are eloquently described by Kathryn in her full story (see below).  We enjoyed perfect weather for their engagement session resulting in amazing portraits, especially sunset images.  Notice our background image of our blog?  Yes, that’s Dave & Kathryn!

After weeks of searching for the perfect venue at the right price and mounting hopelessness, a co-worker mentioned Eagle Glen to them, which happened to be only one exit from their home.  Everything about the location was perfect and they were immediately sold once they saw the priceless view.  Kathryn was fortunate to have the help of her mom, stepmom, Dave’s mom and both her bridesmaids for all the planning details…tons of hours, countless emails, phone calls, guest favors, seating assignments, you name it!

Many of the details of their wedding had special meaningful significance.  Kathryn pinned a cross inside her wedding dress that was previously worn by all of the women on her mother’s side of the family for their own weddings since 1900, their minister was a close friend of Dave’s grandfather, instead of a ring pillow, they had a special ring bowl made with their names, wedding date, and special message on it (to pass along as new family heirloom), and on their reception greeting table, they displayed pictures of their parents and grandparents on their wedding days.   Did you see her garter? A special surprise for Dave!

The moments that Kathryn had looked forward to the most were walking down the aisle to her future husband, and having all of their families and friends together in one place at one time; a once-in-a-lifetime experience for an amazing celebration.  Her most memorable moment was hard to choose but described as an incredible feeling of nervous excitement, suspense, anticipation and joy during the moment she walked on her father’s arm down the aisle to her husband.  There was also a really fun bonding moment before the ceremony with her MOH and BM that involved a bride who forgot the golden rule of using the ladies room before putting on her wedding dress.  Oops!!

Their wedding day was absolutely perfect in its own way and for its own reason.  They wouldn’t change a thing!

Kathryn’s Advise for Future Brides -

“If people insist on helping, just remember they only do so because they love you and want to be helpful.  So give them little tasks that don’t necessarily require any major decision making so 1) they can feel like they’re contributing and 2) they can hopefully be helping check one more thing, however little, off of your to-do list.  And lastly, make your wedding unique.  There was nothing more fun about our wedding day than finding cool ways to make it a reflection of us; from the a typical song we selected for our first dance, to the use of NHL teams as table markers instead of numbers.  If something is non-traditional but it screams you and your fiance, or is in some way special to you two as a couple, go for it!  Your relationship is unlike any other in the world so make your wedding, which is the ultimate celebration of your relationship, reflect it!”
